Cllr Chris Clarance, of Shaldon, chairman of Teignbridge Council, writes:
I had the privilege of opening events at both the Den in the morning and the rugby club in the afternoon prior to the Olympic Torch coming across Shaldon Bridge.
I would very much like to express my thanks to everyone involved in helping to make the entire day everywhere such a success.
Thanks to Teignmouth Town Council for working hard down at the Den and the Dartmoor School Partnership in putting on the Primary Torch Olympics at the rugby club and to the rugby club itself for allowing the event and getting involved.
Not forgetting, too, Tracey Higgs, of TDC, and her entire team in the planning of the event, and help throughout the entire day.
Then, of course, there is the London Olympic Torch team who did such a good job in delivering the fantastic event it turned out to be after months of forward planning with the Teignbridge team and Devon County Council, which must be pleased the bridge stood up well with the thousands who turned up to watch!
Not forgetting the police whose huge contribution too, should also be very pleased with the end result.
I would lastly like to say a big thank you to all who simply turned up to watch in the spirit of a day which will live long in people's memories in the years ahead to come.
A final thank you to Alec Collyer, one of the runners, who allowed so many of us in Shaldon later to hold and be photographed with the torch he carried.
