NEWTON Abbot Town Council hosted its annual meeting in Courtenay Street today, Saturday, May 20, and it proved popular among residents wandering the town.

From 10am councillors and officers from the town council set up shop along Courtenay Street, which was soon busy with people, many of whom stopped to chat with their town's elected representatives as well as the staff at Newton Abbot Town Council.

This event was one of the first official engagements for Newton Abbot's new mayor, Cllr David-Corney Walker.

David has held the position once before in 2008/9, and when asked how he felt to be mayor for a second time he described it as 'unexpected but wonderful.'

Elsewhere, Kate Green, Newton Abbot Town Council's community engagement officer, hosted her latest 'Creative Newton Abbot' session.

In this instance the craft session focused around new laws for Newton Abbot.

Six-year-old Primrose suggested two laws: shops must maintain low prices and that those living in the town must always be happy, which were added to the scroll of new laws.

Some other suggestions included that for every baby born in Newton Abbot, a tree must be planted and that each and every Monday cake must be handed out in a bid to raise the collective mood.
