TEIGNMOUTH councillors want to slash by more than half the number of new homes allocated to the town in the controversial plan for the next 20 years.
In the Teignbridge core strategy document, the town has to build 1,250 houses, but the town council insists that is far too many – about 500 would be enough.

It was unveiled at a town council meeting on Tuesday at Bitton House, which was packed with residents who oppose the Teignbridge version.
Councillors say most of the homes could be built on brownfield sites and public land around the town centre, and more of them should be 'affordable' and social housing.
They also want to see more jobs created.
