TEIGNMOUTH is set to benefit from another major movie.
A film crew were in town last week to shoot scenes for a thriller, The Silent, which will be screened at film festivals around the world later in the year.
It comes hard on the heels of The Mercy, based on the ill-fated voyage of Donald Crowhurst from the resort, which is scheduled for release in October.
The Silent stars one of the Britain’s top character actors, Oliver Ford Davies, who featured in Star Wars and Game of Thrones, and has performed in hundreds of other films and television programmes, including Land Girls, the Agatha Christie Marples series, Midsummer Murders, and and Foyles’ War. He has also acted with the Royal Shakespeare Company.
The director Karen Turner, from Lightning Oak Productions, said the plot of The Silent revolved around male domestic abuse, which was not so well documented as female abuse.
‘It is quite a huge issue, but about 90 per cent of men do not report they are being abused.
‘We also show how a chance meeting with somebody can lead to life changing events.
‘Many films are London centric, but we wanted to film outside the capital, and as I live in South Devon and know Teignmouth well, thought it would be a good area to film some of the scenes.
‘A lot of young, up-andcoming actors are also featured, including Oli Meredith, who I am sure is going to be a big name in the future – he is really going places.
‘Several locals were used as extras, and we filmed at the skatepark, which is a superb setting because it is right on the seafront, and local businesses were also used, including the Pavilions.
We attracted quite a few crowds during the filming.
