KIND-HEARTED Teignmouth folk have helped put a smile on a brave disabled toddler's face by raising hundreds of pounds to buy him special equipment.
Joshua Winsborrow, right, who is nearly two, of Kingsteignton, suffers from a condition called spinal muscular atrophy which prevents him from walking.
There is no known cure for the degenerative condition and eventually Joshua will need a wheelchair.
But to prevent his muscles from wasting and his spine needing a brace Joshua needs as much exercise as he can get.
So to help him get that exercise local folk raised nearly £600 to buy a tricycle specially designed for the disabled.
His mum, Lisa, who lived in Teignmouth until last June and still works there, explained.
She said: 'In November we visited Torbay hospital, where Josh fell in love with a trike adapted for disabled children.
'But at a cost of £575 it was just a distant dream.
'That was until Leigh's cousin, Claire Twitchin, came to the rescue.
'She began fund-raising in the hope of putting some money to the cost of the trike.
'But with her mammoth effort and the generosity of Teignmouth Tangent and Trinity School the trike was no longer just a dream.
"All in all the different groups raised more than £2,000 which we used to buy the trike and pay for a specially built circular table and chair for Joshua.
'The trike has given him a new lease of life and made him very happy.
'He is even able to chase his three-year-old sister, Megan, now.
'Many family and friends gave donations including Teignmouth rugby club.
'The extra money means we may be able to buy Joshua a walker.
'And in the future he will probably need a wheelchair which can cost around £8,000.
'But we've been really touched by the support and kindness of family, friends, colleagues and local people too.'
