A STUDENT, understood to be from the Newton Abbot area, has died suddenly after being diagnosed with acute leukaemia.

The Year 8 girl at Torquay Girls’ Grammar school died over the weekend just days after falling seriously ill.

Headteacher Dr Nick Smith, in a letter to parents, said: ‘It is with great sadness that I write to inform you of the death of one of our Year 8 pupils.

‘She died over the weekend from the complications of acute leukaemia.

‘We know you will join us in our concern and deep sympathy for the family.’

It is believed the girl was at school last week before she was taken ill suddenly.
