A GROUP of travellers have moved on to contaminated land at Broadmeadow playing fields. The Irish travellers set up camp with eight caravans on Tuesday night. The former landfill site has been closed as playing fields for the past six years because of safety fears. Teignbridge council alerted the group to the safety concerns on Wednesday. They have also been advised that they will face legal action if they do not move on. Teign Estuary councillor David Cox said: 'They have been polite and courteous and have moved right against the hedge to avoid too much disruption. They intend to stay only for a few days and if they have not gone by then, they will face legal action by the counci.'
