A LARGE tree fell victim to Storm Claudio on Monday. The huge tree in Courtenay Park, Newton Abbot, was being inspected by tree workers from Teignbridge Council.
A council spokesperson said: ‘Our tree consultants Devon Tree Services have visited Courtney Park and inspected the Holm Oak, which has had a large primary branch break off over a footpath and into the park.
‘The consultants will start work to significantly shorten the remaining canopy by around a half, to reduce the likelihood of any further branch failure.
‘This is in the hope that the tree will respond from the points of reduction and develop a new crown, therefore retaining an important feature for the long-term.
‘While in the short term it may look unsightly, its appearance should improve as new branches grow and develop.’
