TREVOR Colman, of Bishopsteignton, retained his seat for the United Kingdom Independence Party in the European Parliamentary Election for the South West Region.UKIP polled 341,845 votes giving it two of the six seats – Lord Dartmouth, of Newton Abbot, takes the other – the party increasing its number of votes from 2004 by more than 15,000.The Conservatives remain with three seats after polling 468,742 votes. Giles Chichester returns to Brussels and is joined by Julie Girling and Ashley Fox. The party had increased its vote by more than 11,000.Also returned to the European Parliament was Liberal Democrat Graham Watson but the party's vote only marginally increased.After Labour's disastrous Devon County Council election results the trend continued in the Euro election and they went from bad to worse.They were 90,000 votes down from five years ago, and Glyn Ford lost his seat, albeit there were six seats this time instead of seven previously.With 118,716 votes Labour fell by 6.83 per cent on party votes, dropped to fifth place with the Green Party hopping above them into fourth and increasing its share of the vote to 9.30 per cent, a jump of 2.14 per cent.The British National Party polled 60,889, showing a 0.92 per cent rise, while the Pensioners Party For All Ages finished seventh with 37,785.Throughout the region 1,561,036 voted, representing a turnout of 39.04 per cent.Of the 17 political parties, groups and an Independent standing, 11 lost their deposits.In the Teignbridge area, where the count was at Newton Abbot Leisure Centre on Sunday evening, 44,174 voted, representing a 43.88 per cent turnout.Results: British National Party 60,889; Christian Party 'Proclaiming Christ's Lordship' 21,329 (lost deposit); Conservative Party 468,742; English Democrats Party 25,313 (lost deposit); Fair Play Fair Trade Party 7,151 (lost deposit); Jury Team 5,758 (lost deposit); Liberal Democrats 266,253; Mebyon Kernow – The Party for Cornwall 14,922 (lost deposit); No2EU: Yes To Democracy 9,741 (lost deposit); Pensioners Party 37,785 (lost deposit); Pro Democracy: Libertas.eu 7,292 (lost deposit); Socialist Labour Party 10,033 (lost deposit); Green Party 144,179; Labour Party 118,716; United Kingdom Independence Party 341,845; WAI D 789 (lost deposit); Katie Olivia Hopkins Independent 8,971 (lost deposit).
