A RETIRED Chudleigh doctor and his wife have had a new school in Uganda named after them.

Dr Allan Bapty, 85, and his wife Tricia were recognised by the African family who have set up the educational facility for children in the town of Kabale in south west Uganda.

And the couple were invited to Uganda to officially open the Bapty Nursery School and Day Care Centre.

It has been set up by Alice Kyarimpa, her sisters and brother to provide the kind of education they are grateful to have received and is due to open in January.

Initially, it is planned to start with one classroom for smaller children and orphans but the plan is to build additional classes for older children in the next few years.
