AN ACTION group have adorned their local war memorial with hand-made Ukrainian-themed flowers in an effort to raise awareness of the group’s fundraising for refugees.

Members of Kingskerswell Action Group (KAG) are hard at work raising money for those affected by the on-going conflict in Eastern Europe.

The group have been selling flags and books to drum up funds and now KAG have created a Ukrainian-themed display at the Kingskerswell War Memorial to further raise awareness of what they are doing.

Kingskerswell Action Group Chairman Roger Jones said: ‘We have in the pst created a poppy display at the war memorial in Kingskerswell.

‘The residents have knitted, crocheted and made felt poppies for us to show respect and appreciation of fallen villagers for Remembrance Sunday and created a visual display.

’Seeing how the Ukrainian people have suffered at the hands of invading Russian forces we thought it was appropriate to show our support to them.

‘We have asked residents to create similar flowers and purchase flags to help us raise funds for Ukraine.

‘Kingskerswell Action Group is donating all our raised funds from sales and online sales for this cause for the months of March until June both months inclusive.’

Every penny that is raised by the Kingskerswell Action Group in Marchand April from online sales and local sales is to be donated to Ukraine.

Kingskerswell Parish Cllr Tania Elston said: ‘There is a quiet reflective scene of Blue and Yellow knitted flowers and Ukrainian flags at our Kingskerswell War Memorial to show community heartfelt support and to raise money for the Ukrainian Disaster Fund.

‘A huge thank you to Kingskerswell Action Group for organising this and to everyone who has contributed to enable this to happen.’

Formed in 2018, Kingskerwell Action Group consists of more than 70 volunteers who came together in an attempt to make the village a more pleasant and beautiful place to live.

The KAG have been involved in all manner of efforts to improve the village: tidying up, litter picking, painting furniture, creating flower beds and much more.

The group went on to create Coles Lane Gardens which won a Gold Britian in Bloom 2021 award.
