TRAIN services to and from Newton Abbot are still being delayed or cancelled this evening, Wednesday, due to an emergency services led incident near the railway station.

Emergency services at the scene included police, paramedics and firefighters.

According to Great Western Railway (GWR), the disruption is set to last until 7.30pm. Some services may be delayed by up to an hour and some cancelled.

GWR said: ‘Due to the emergency services dealing with an incident near Newton Abbot, the line is closed.

‘Train services between Newton Abbot and Exeter St Davids, and Newton Abbot and Plymouth will be cancelled or delayed by up to 60 minutes.'

A GWR spokesperson has just confirmed all services to and from the station have been suspended or cancelled for at least another hour.

'This was an emergency services led operation near the station and we are unable to comment further,' they said.

A Fire Control spokesperson said its personnel had been dealing with the incident and by 6.30pm the firefighters were leaving the scene.

A spokesperson for the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust said:  'We received a call at 17:18 regarding an incident at Newton Abbot Station and dispatched a double crewed ambulance and an Operations Officer.'

The police have been contacted for comment.
