CHIEFS at Teignbridge Council are appearing before a judge tomorrow in hope of getting a group of unwanted travellers turfed out of a car park in Newton Abbot.
A convoy of caravans parked up in Cricketfield car park a week ago, taking up nearly 20 vital parking spaces.
Passers-by have slammed the unwanted guests for apparently leaving rubbish everywhere and hanging their laundry up across the town centre car park.
Officials at the district authority revealed they are following legal procedures and are heading to the courthouse tomorrow morning to get the travellers evicted.
A spokesman said: ‘In accordance with legal procedures we have approached the court and proceedings have been issued.
‘A hearing before a judge has been set for 10am on April 6.’
An eye-witness told the Mid-Devon Advertiser: ‘I have nothing against the lifestyle but the cost of the clean-up, repairs, legal bills and lost revenue will be considerable.’
One man from the nearby Royal British Legion was outraged that Teignbridge hadn’t taken action when the travellers moved in last Thursday.
He wanted to see the travellers pay the full car parking fees.
‘I have got a motorhome and it gives people like me a bad name,’ he added.
