Women could provide the solution to an urgent need for more retained firefighters in Moretonhampstead and Chagford, according to Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service.

Unless additional volunteers can be found fire chiefs have warned there could be occasions when the two towns have to rely on other stations for cover.

Group manager Robbie Woods said people from all walks of life could be of help.
