VILLAGERS in Abbotskerswell believe pranksters rather than vandals were responsible for damaging three scarecrows and stealing another.

The scarecrows were in the village's Scarecrow Festival which this year has attracted a massive 55 entries.

Of three scarecrows at Liz Taylor's home at Mote Cottage, only one remains, that of Diver.

Gone completely is Monkey, while Superman, which was suspended on a pole, was taken down and the head detached.
