TWO vans collided with each other on the A38 today with one crashing off the carriageway outside Ashburton.

All occupants were free of the vehicles when emergency services arrived at the scene on the Plymouth-bound carriageway between Pear Tree Cross and West Linhay.

The accident, involving a white Mercedes Sprinter from Staffordshire and a blue VW Transporter from Looe in Cornwall, happened just before midday.

The Sprinter ended up in a field on its side.

Fire crews from Newton Abbot and Torquay attended to make the vans safe.
