A FAMILY-RUN Teignbridge Post Office and village shop has been shortlisted for a national award.
The Dairy in Lustleigh is a finalist in the Countryside Alliance 2026 awards in the village shop and post office category.
Known as the Rural Oscars, the awards celebrate the best in British food and farming, enterprise and heritage.
Run by Dean and Shirley Wenham, the popular village shop offers a host of products including groceries, fruit and veg, local beer, wine, honey, jams, chutneys and ice cream.
As well as providing Post Office services, the couple also sell newspapers, hot/cold pasties and sausage rolls, hot drinks and even takeaway pizzas in the evenings from Thursday to Saturday.
Popular with customers, the couple also entertain with videos on social media.
Dean and Shirley were surprised to make it the shortlist.
They said: ‘Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to vote for us for the Countryside Alliance Awards, for the Best Village Shop/ Post Office, it means a lot.’
Voting has opened and closes at midnight on Monday April 6.
Now in their 19th year, the awards celebrate the country’s small hard-working businesses and have become the definitive rural business award to win.
They are set apart from other award schemes because they are driven by public nomination, offering customers the chance to tell us why their favourite businesses are worthy of national acclaim.
A spokesman for the Countryside Alliance said; ‘The awards exist to sing the praises of those who work hard to keep our communities and rural economy ticking, but don’t seek the spotlight.
‘These awards provide a cause for celebration in a time of great uncertainty in the countryside.’
Winners will be chosen through the public vote and will go on to represent the region at the House of Lords in the national champions’ reception in July.
