THREE of the Black Swans in Dawlish have had to be rehomed after straying away from their home on the Lawn.

The young adult females were found wandering about on Saturday morning having crossed the A379 out to Coastguards on Exeter Road.

Thanks to Neil Salter, of Dawlish Beachcams and other volunteers, the three swans were moved back down and back onto the Lawn.

But after weeks of the adult swans wandering the streets, it was decided it was safer to rehome them.

Their new location is ideal and away from traffic.

A spokesman for Dawlish Waterfowl said: ‘These young black swans which had been hand-reared were in real danger and a potential hazard to traffic.

‘They cannot be moved to the aviary due to their size and they are used to roaming.

‘After much thought, a decision has now been taken by wardens with the town council to rehome them.’
