A seaside town is gridlocked today (Monday February 16) thanks to the rebuilding of a wall on a key route.

Residents are reporting delays of over an hour thanks to the installation of four-way temporary traffic lights near Third Avenue in Teignmouth to ensure contractors have a safe working area as they repair a wall.

Traffic has built up on all the key routes through Teignmouth with queues stretching through the town and up the Dawlish Road in one direction, beyond Bishopsteignton along the A381 and across Shaldon Bridge towards the A379 Torquay coast road.

The chaos has been exacerbated in Shaldon as the tailbacks extend into the long-term ‘temporary’ traffic lights at the Ringmore Road junction. While drivers in Teignmouth are struggling due to additional traffic controls on Higher Exeter Road near the new Teignbrook development as well as a road closure on New Road.

Drivers attempting to avoid the tailbacks by using the back lanes are being thwarted by a road closure in Bishopsteignton by the Old Walls Vineyard, while the Shaldon Road near Combeinteignhead is also closed near the Combe Cellars Inn.
