FOUR head-turning War Horses from the acclaimed West End theatre show have settled on Dartmoor to raise money for this year’s Poppy Appeal.

The amazing equine creations are being stabled at the former Moorland Hotel at Haytor, now known as the Tinpickle and Rhum.

Those hoping to catch sight of the life-size working props will have to part with at least £1 for the privilege. All donations from inquisitive sightseers will be passed on to the Royal British Legion and the Spana charity which helps animals in war zones.

Michael Morpurgo’s acclaimed book War Horse was not only adapted for the stage but it became a blockbuster movie which was partly shot on Dartmoor.

The theatrical quartet will be lodged in the hall of the moorland venue on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

A spokesman for the static display said: ‘This is a rare opportunity to marvel at these magnificent, lifesize characters at close quarters. They are inspirational and very emotive.’

The entourage fittingly travelled in a four-stall Oakley horse lorry and caused much intrigue when the ramp was dropped at the Haytor destination.

‘The silent, mannerly equines were convincing even without the mastery of their War Horse operators,’ said the spokesman.
