A Teignbridge primary school has released a promotional video to enable prospective parents and carers to get a flavour of what life is really like for pupils.

Bishopsteignton Primary School launched the five-minute film last week to showcase what makes the school such a special place.

It features pupils talking about what they love about the school and describing why the school’s values of empathy, collaboration, high expectations, resilience, curiosity and self-belief are important to them.

The film was produced by film maker Keith Guppy from Community Action Movies, who is a parent of children at the school.

School leaders met with Keith to discuss their hopes and vision for the video prior to filming and were keen to ensure the children at the school were at the centre of the action.

‘Keith captured the heart of Bishop beautifully; a place where our values guide everything we do and where the voices of our children remain at the centre of every decision. Our pupils are, and always will be, the reason behind our commitment to be the best we can be,’ commented head teacher Dave Killoran.

‘Visitors often comment on the warm, welcoming atmosphere created by the children and staff which make Bishop such a special place to be,’ he added. ‘During our more recent OFSTED inspection, one pupil described the school as ‘one big happy family’ – a sentiment we wanted to celebrate and reflect in the film.’

To underpin the importance of the children’s voices in the development of the film, the launch was celebrated with a special assembly before it was posted on the Bishopsteignton Primary School website.

Community Action Movies is a video production company that works closely with community groups and local businesses to tell their story through film. The firm has previously worked with Bitton Park Bowls Club and Teignmouth Rugby Club.
