A film featuring Teignmouth business owners has been released to encourage shoppers to source their Christmas gifts locally.
The reel, posted on social media for Colour Friday, an awareness day set up to promote independent businesses as an alternative to Black Friday, was the brainchild of artist and gallery owner Laura Wall.
Colour Friday celebrates local businesses and encourages consumers to support small, independent retailers and buy unique, handmade and local products to help boost the local economy and reduce the environmental impact from mass-produced goods.
At the beginning of November, Laura called for traders in the town to get in touch with their best-selling products to feature in the video.
The film features 30 business owners from Teignmouth and includes a range of gift ideas including jewellery, clothing, beauty products, books, food and drink and boat trips.
She was overwhelmed with the response and said that filming was ‘a mammouth mission’ and she ended up ‘running around Teignmouth like something from Challenge Anneka’ because there were so many businesses keen to get involved.
Laura hopes the film will inspire residents to support businesses in the town and help the local economy and make shoppers aware of the amazing businesses on their doorstep.
Businesses that didn’t get a chance to feature in the film are encouraged to share their products or gift ideas in the comments section of the video on the Laura Wall Art and Illustration Facebook and Instagram pages.
Teignmouth traders are not the only Teignbridge entrepreneurs to take to video this festive season. In Ashburton, business owners have recreated the dance routine to Kylie Mingogue’s Christmas single XMAS in a bid to promote their town.
