Forecast bad weather at the weekend has forced the cancellation of Teignmouth Town Council’s Proms in the Park event this Saturday (September 13).
The decision to cancel was made after the Town Council assessed that a combination of wet ground and the sloped terrain of Bitton Park would pose safety risks to those attending.
‘This decision was not taken lightly, as we were very much looking forward to the event,’ a Teignmouth Town Council spokesperson said. ‘However, the safety of the public must remain our top priority.’
The event, to celebrate the BBC’s Last Night of the Proms, had included free tickets to access Bitton House in the event of rain. However, the Town Council said that the indoor contingency plan was intended for use during the performance in case of wind or cooler temperatures and not for hosting the entire event indoors.
‘We believe that an indoor venue would not capture the essence and enjoyment of the Proms in the Park experience,’ the Town Council said.
‘We sincerely apologise for any disappointment this may cause and appreciate your understanding. We hope for sunnier skies and better conditions next year and would like to thank you for your continued support and enthusiasm,’ the spokesperson added.
