BUCKLAND Athletic’s road to Wembley was blocked yesterday as they crashed out of the FA Vase quarter-finals with a 2-0 defeat away to Bromsgrove Sporting.

It could have been so different for the luckless Newton Abbot travellers who had a goal disallowed for offside early on and a saved penalty.

The tide turned on the hour as Bromsgrove nudged ahead with a penalty and consolidated their lead nearly a quarter-of-an-hour later.

Buckland manager Ellis Laight conceded afterwards that the game was decided on the outcome of the two penalties.

He was devastated to lose after progressing so far in the competition - but delighted the team had put themselves within shouting distance of a Wembley final.
