A NINE-foot high giraffe has been turning a few heads in Chudleigh Knighton.
The long-necked creature that spends its days gazing out over a fence in River Valley Road, has been created by Wendy Hegarty.
Wanting something to keep her busy during the first lockdown she decided that building a giraffe was the obvious thing to do.
‘It’s taken 10 months on and off to create,’ said Wendy.
‘I started it just for a bit of enjoyment really – and I’ve always wanted a giraffe in the garden!’
The body skeleton has been created from chickenwire topped off with Modroc and then the whole body was hand painted by Wendy.
Wendy added: ‘The giraffe spent Christmas in our lounge while the paint was drying. Most people go for a Christmas tree but we had a tree in one corner and giraffe in the other! Now the giraffe is out and about he’s raised a lot of smiles – which in these current times is a really good thing.’
