THE sound of Japan could be heard in Newton Abbot town centre this past weekend, Saturday, October 8.

Those wandering through the town had two opportunities, once at 10.30am and again at 11.30am, to catch a glimpse of Tano Taiko in action and listen to a drumming style which originated in a country more than 5,000 miles away.

Taiko drumming is a performing art originating from Japan involving big drums and choreography.

Tano Taiko are the main performance group of Taiko South West.

Based out of premises at Seale Hayne, Newton Abbot, Taiko South West offer Taiko drop-in sessions, workshops and courses, as well as workshops for schools, and performances by Tano Taiko.
