THE 'lenient' sentence handed out to the killer of a young Teignmouth man has been branded 'a joke' by his devastated partner.

Speaking exclusively to the Post, Kerry Lockley, 36, described how her family's life had been broken after Dan Bury, 29, died when Lee Webber plunged a knife into his heart.

Webber, 27, denied murder, but admitted manslaughter and was jailed for nine years at Exeter Crown Court. But he is likely to be freed in four years.

And a Teignmouth councillor has declared there is a burning sense that justice has not been done.

Ms Lockley said the killing had 'broken my heart, left my five children distraught and destroyed my faith in the criminal justice system'.

'We are all serving life sentences – we will never fully get over it – yet the killer will be walking the street again in only four years. Drug dealers and burglars can serve longer than that behind bars.

'I do not blame the judge, his hands were tied, but where is the justice for the victims?

'Dan died a hero in my arms. He was playing the good Samaritan by going to help somebody in trouble, despite knowing there was a knife being waved around.
