If you fancy a coffee while donating to charity tomorrow, September 28, then there’s plenty of choices around with Macmillan’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning.

Lots of South Devon people and businesses are hosting coffee mornings today to join in this annual fundraising extravaganza.

There’s a coffee morning all day, from 10am to 4pm, at Kingsteignton’s Oakford Lawn. And from 9am at Orsino Lounge on Queen Street in Newton Abbot.

At Bishopsteignton Methodist Church they’re serving coffee and cake from 10am to midday. One of the organisers Fran Edwards is also having her head shaved at the same time to raise more funds.

Fran said: ‘I’m continually hearing of people who have been diagnosed with cancer or of people who have died.

‘I feel I can’t make them better but hopefully with the coffee morning and having my head shaved I can raise some money for the Macmillan Nurses who do such a wonderful job.’

South Devon Railway volunteers are hosting a fund-raising coffee morning, complete with homemade cakes, in the railway station’s buffet coach, from 10.30am to 3pm, at Staverton station.

Organiser Marina Mitchelmore said: ‘Macmillan Cancer Support has supported some of our members through difficult times, so we felt it would be good to give something back to help others.’

Ally Konetsky, who was diagnosed with brain cancer nearly three years ago, will be celebrating her 50th birthday with a coffee morning to raise funds for both Macmillan Cancer Support and Rowcroft Hospice.

Her birthday coffee morning is at Teignmouth Yacht Club, from 10am to 1pm.

Vauxhall dealership Eden Torbay is inviting people in for a cuppa and homemade cake at their Orchard Way showroom, from 10am to 4pm.

They also have events planned for the day including exercise-bike marathons, leg waxing and prize raffles.

General Manager James Kurd said: ‘There’ll be a variety of cakes for people to enjoy including many which have been homemade by some of our more culinary-creative staff and their families – last year’s Guinness and chocolate cake went down a treat.

‘And for every penny raised Eden will double it.’

Many schools will be joining in the fun too, including Denbury Primary School who will be entertained and provided with coffee and cake by the Haytor Class.

Last year the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning event raised £27 million for Macmillan across the country. Since it began in 1990 it’s raised more than £200 million for the charity.
