The moVment Jam BMX festival, held at Decoy, Newton Abbot, last weekend, has been described as 'wicked' and plans are already afoot to make next year's even bigger and better, writes NIGEL CANHAM. Paul Novis, owner of Green Machine cycles, Kingsteignton, transported his shop virtually lock, stock and barrel to the two-day event where, despite the threat of rain on Saturday which help numbers down, he was kept busy. 'It was really good and by Sunday the place was packed,' he said. 'They heard that world champion, Kingsteignton's Kye Forte, was riding, and about the King of the Dirt, which is a huge jump. 'People were front flipping, back flipping, whipping out, everything, it was wicked. Now that people know about the moVment Jam, we're looking forward to next year which should be even better still.' The weekend proved to be good also for the three Kingsteignton brothers whose professional involvement with the sport has reached a level others only dream of. Kye is already world dirt champion and, not surprisingly, took first prize in the weekend's pro-dirt competition. His brother, Leo, took second and Toby, who works at Green Machine, came in fourth. Really impressed with the weekend, Toby said: 'It was amazing and it achieved everything we wanted it to. 'We drew in a lot of people to witness the hard work that's already gone into making Decoy a brilliant place to ride and raised funds towards making our £100,000 plans for Decoy Misfits a reality. 'We're determined next year to make the event more serious, more competitive, with riders from across the world, and really put Newton Abbot and Decoy on the map.' The event's main sponsor, Red Bull, has already pledged its continued support of the event and landowner, Teignbridge Council, has said it is proud of the district's growing reputation in the BMX world.
