A woman taking an evening dip on Teignmouth beach prompted a lifeboat call out last night (Wednesday September 17).
Volunteer crew from Teignmouth Royal National Lifeboat Institute (RNLI) were paged just after 7pm after a member of the public raised concerns about someone entering the water near St Michael’s Church on Teignmouth seafront.
The caller was worried due to the wet and windy weather conditions.
Volunteer lifeboat and shore crews from Teignmouth attended alongside Dawlish Coastguard. They arrived to find a lady who was out for an evening swim and had entered the water willingly.
‘This was a false alarm with good intent,’ a spokesperson from Teignmouth RNLI said. ‘It’s always better to raise the alarm than risk someone in danger,’ the spokesperson added.
