An 86-year-old woman was left shaken after more than a £1,000 in cash was taken from her home in Sandringham Road, Buckland, on Monday Afternoon. Iris Stolworthy was in her front garden when a burglar prised open a locked window at the rear of her home, gained entry to her home and raided her bedroom, stealing her purse, pension book and money in the process. 'It's absolutely terrible,' said Mrs Stolworthy. 'I'm angry as the money was for my brother, Burty, who is 97. He's in a care home and it was to pay for his care. I was waiting for my daughter-in-law to come and collect the money, but they took it all. They even took my milk money. They must have known what they were doing.' Mrs Stolworthy, who has lived in Sandringham Road for six years, said it is the second time she has been hit by burglars in the last year. 'The last time I was burgled, someone came into my house saying they were from the health service, but they weren't. When they left I realised they had stolen £400, which was towards a holiday I was saving for,' she said. Since the first break-in she has thought more about security measures. 'I made sure everything was locked up when I was in the garden, but they got in anyway. They must have been skinny as the window is only small. 'When I went into my house and saw the bedroom in such a mess, I just didn't know where to start tidying it all up.' The pensioner, who has heart problems and diabetes, said the whole experience has been extremely traumatic. 'I didn't need all this added stress,' she said.
