A YOUNG woman from Newton Abbot escaped serious injury when her car smashed into the central reservation during this morning’s rush-hour on one of Devon’s busiest roads.
The driver, in her 20s, was taken to hospital by ambulance after her silver Citroen bounced off the crash barrier and ended up in the middle of the four-lane Exeter-bound carriageway at Splatford Split.
Speeding traffic behind managed to avoid her wrecked vehicle just moments after impact at 7am.
Police and paramedics attended the incident which caused major traffic congestion with queues stretching back as far as Kingsteignton on the A380 and Chudleigh Knighton on the A38 Devon Expressway.
The road was re-opened by 8.30am.
A police spokesman said the casualty was taken to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital for treatment to minor injuries.
