A fundraising open day for Ashburton's Woodlanders Kindergarten has swollen the charitable coffers by £700. The event, staged in three acres of gardens at Lower Waye Farm, was well attended and held under blue skies. Youngsters enjoyed a host of attractions including African drumming, face-painting, paddling pools and sandpits positioned in the shade of a gazebo. 'It went really well and it was a lovely day,' said Audrey Cooper, a parent and trustee of the charity, Ashburton Family Services, which runs the kindergarten at the Woodland Road Centre. 'We're hoping to raise about £5,000 in total so we can improve our outdoor play area by installing climbing frames, water play equipment and shaded areas using willow structures.' The group has been running for seven years and has 50 pre-school children on its books.
