A BRAND-NEW gym has fallen victim to an unprovoked attack after yobs smashed their £26,000 windows on the very night they were fitted.
Bosses at Premier Fitness which officially opened last weekend were baffled as to why mindless yobs had thrown stones from the nearby railway bridge, smashing almost every single window on one side of the building.
Rocks were hurled on a number of days during a sustained two week-long siege.
Gym users were pumping iron inside when the very first stone was hurled, baffling those who would rather focus on their fitness.
The building – at Olympus Business Park on Kingsteignton Road – is a curious target for youths, seeing as the new gym has opened above the Premier Kickboxing Club downstairs.
After the first attack, gym owner, Stuart Mcdowell, who was training at kickboxing downstairs at the time, chose to have CCTV installed the very next day.
The stone-throwers may regret coming back time and time again to smash the windows, as their antics on their return trips were caught... ‘very clearly’ on camera.
Stuart explained how he had tirelessly ‘put everything’ into the business over a five-month period, only for kids to smash their ‘and only their’ windows on the industrial estate.
‘It’s a shame’, said gym owner Stuart. ‘We’ve spent so much money. I think it’s just kids being bored or something.’
He added: ‘It’s so random that we were targeted though. At first we thought it was malicious, because no other building was touched and they came back time and time again.’
Gym manager Michelle Roberts was also left scratching her head. Given that the windows were smashed the very night they were fitted and due to the fact the hoodlums kept coming back.
‘We’ve only had people testing the gym for four days, five-months of blood sweat and tears, and for this to happen now is so sad.
‘Why would anyone do that’, she asked. ‘It’s been hard enough for this industry, and all while opening during lockdown.’
Staff at the gym have now handed the CCTV over to the British Transport Police, given that the stones were thrown from the area of the railway.
Those who hurled rocks are urged to come forward. The footage, as Michelle highlights is ‘very clear.’
Premier fitness officially opened last weekend.
The brand new site can be found at Olympus Business park as staff who have worked to bring the gym to life can count on the support of the town’s fitness fanatics.
