SUPER baker Harley Law has been inspirational in his fundraising efforts.

The 12-year-old Teign School student has raised a staggering £500 for the Stroke Association with his well-organised cake stalls.

The Year 7 student’s business-like approach has been praised by the Kingsteignton school’s staff.

Both his grandfathers died of strokes so when students were challenged to Grow £4 for charity, he decided to support the Stroke Association.

He made cakes, marshmallow pops, which were baked and wrapped and sold for 50p each.

Harley said: ‘I had a steady client base every break and lunchtime over two months.

‘There were often the same regular customers every day.’

Adding chocolate popcorn and sweet bags to his product line, he also organised an event to raise more money.

Harley, a member of Centaurus House, decided to run a raffle and wrote 20 personalised letters to local businesses for raffle prizes and received generous offers of leisure vouchers and cash.

The raffle took place at a coffee morning held at Rydon community hall before Christmas.

The event was advertised in advance at local GPs’ surgeries, promoting the Stroke Association, and through his grandmother’s Facebook page.

An avid Blue Peter fan, Harley has every badge except the Gold badge.

Jennifer Robinson-Slater, community and events fundraiser for the Stroke Association in the south west, visited the school to collect the cheque from Harley.

Centuarus House success leader Sophie Hollyoak said: ‘Harley is an asset to the Teign School community and an inspiration.’
