Ken Pegden, of Huxley Vale, Kingskerswell, chairman of the Kingskerswell alliance, writes:

Following John Balment's excellent and comprehensive article regarding the final days of the public inquiry into the Compulsory Purchase Orders for the Kingskerswell bypass, may I add just one comment.

John rightly states that Devon County Council has spent over £3m so far. The Kingskerswell Alliance has raised just over £17,000, much of this from local donations. One springs to mind from a lady who sent a cheque for £10, apologised for it being so small but her husband had just been made redundant.

If I could have raised £100,000, Steer Davies Gleave, the transport consultant, could have completed its work and shown how our alternative package would work.

I believe that every member of the alliance should feel proud of what they have achieved with limited funds. So finally may I offer my heartfelt thanks to all who have so generously donated. Your money has been put to good use, I promise.
