FLU EPIDEMIC

SNOOKER

A most entertaining evening was held at the Teignmouth Conservative Club on Thursday, with a snooker exhibition from Dennis Taylor, finalist in the Television Pot Black series. Taylor, who holds a unique world record of having made breaks of 100 or over in three successive frames, gave a brilliant exhibition against a number of Club members, including the youngest Michael Vooght. The evening concluded with a demonstration of fascinating trick shots, which delighted the audience.

SAVING THE MARKET

Despite the announcement last week that Teignbridge and County Council are to sign the £2 1/4 million agreement with Taylor Woodrow, Ltd. to redevelop Newton Abbot town centre, the battle is far from over. Opponents want the character of market area retained as it is as a visitors’ attraction, and are not prepared to give up without a fight. Massive support s expected on March 4.

Teignbridge has been trying to “bulldoze” the scheme through before the elections in May. It includes a huge supermarket, shop and office units, a pedestrian precinct, restaurant, and a bridge across Sherbourne Road.
