BOTH KBC squads of Over 55s were in action on their travels on Wednesday, May 14.

The X Division side were beaten 47-26 at Starcross, the hosts taking away all eight league points. B Adams 27, Ian Westaway 8; C Griggs 20, John Saunders 18.

Although Ian Westaway’s rink were well beaten by Starcross, it didn’t appear to be so in the earlier stages of the match. The early exchanges were pretty even until about the 7th end when Starcross started pulling away.

The Starcross skip was particularly ruthless, often rescuing the end when being three or four shots down.

It was surprising to witness the turn of events on the Grigg/Saunders rink as Kingsteignton took an early lead and seemed like they would maintain their superiority. We’ve all heard the expression ‘It all changes after tea’ and that’s exactly what happened after the half time interval.

KBC captain John Saunders, who skipped his rink, said later he was annoyed with the way things played out, mainly with his own team and the passage of play, but well done still to Starcross and thanks for a friendly game on a glorious day.

The Y Division side also went away from home, visiting Shaldon’s lawn. Once again, it was a 8-0 defeat in league points at 51-19 to Shaldon. D Haywood 23, Martin Redfern 10; C Napping 28, Bill Beech 9.

Martin Redfern's team started badly but finished reasonably respectably, whereas Bill Beech's team started reasonably then went badly downhill. It was just one of those days when any available luck went to the opposition, although in many instances they deserved it.

Kingsteignton didn't play badly, KBC captain said, but Shaldon's team played better and made use of the familiar surface.

All credit to Shaldon and thanks for a game played in good spirits, with a friendly atmosphere.
