NEWTON Abbot Bowls Club members Isobel Burley and Julia Barnes were part of the Devon Women's Team that defeated Gloucester at Weston Super Mare in The Johns Trophy.

They will now go on to Leamington Spa for the semi and hopefully the final too. Whilst there were no players from Newton Abbot playing in the Devon men's team which won at Clevedon, again against Gloucester, Devon Junior Vice President Dave Pickett would like to wish them well too. This was in the Middleton Cup and they are also headed for Leamington.

The Newton women completed their SDL Fixtures with a home defeat against Torbay Country Club and although some teams below them have games in hand, a possible second placed-finish is possible at the time of writing.

In the Premier Division, the men’s A-team could also finish second, if not third, following a 12-2 home win over Torquay.

Meanwhile, the men's B-team remain in a relegation position in the Second Division and it’s looking tough to stay up- never say never though. The men's C-team, as mentioned in previous reports, have had a wonderful season and promotion out of Division Four remains a possibility. Whatever will be will be!

In a recent club triples, which was played down to a final over the weekend of July 26 and 27, members R.Shaddick/J.Hallwood and S.Doyle will play M,Cruse/I.Rice and A.Howard on finals weekend at the end of this month.

Newton Abbot will welcome the Devon Patrons on Friday 15 and with many of their members being patrons, it will throw up an interesting game, although it should be noted that the patrons members that have been selected, will play for Newton Abbot on the day.
