ABBOTSKERSWELL player-coach Toby Codd could see at least one plus for his relegated side in the six-wicket home defeat by Ivybridge.

“Alfie Harrison (1-29 off 9) was outstanding with the ball,” said Codd, of his teenaged off-spin bowler. “He's been one of the shining lights of the season. Hopefully he will go from strength to strength in years to come.”

Abbotskerswell set Ivybridge 202 to win at Two Mile Oak, which they comfortably achieved with more than 12 overs to go.

Half-centuries from Tom Heath (50) and last man out Codd (59) helped Abbots recover from 84 for five to make 201 all out. Harrison (21) did his bit down the order.

Farzad Safi (5-18) was Ivybridge’s man of the moment with the ball. Three of those wickets came in a nine-ball spell that saw Abbots slide from 23 for one to 37 for four.

Ivybridge were always sitting pretty after openers Harvey Johnson (49) and Abraham Kopparambil (41) put on 93.

Zimmerman (16) and Sam Kidd (16) kept Kopparambil company as the target reduced into the 40s.

Jake Dunn (27no) supplied the final impetus to get Ivybridge over the line. He finished it by hoisting Max Yates for six.

Whilst Abbots’ relegation comes as no surprise, Ivybridge are doing well at the other end and have their promotion prospects firmly in their own hands ahead of the final game of the season.

It will be a fascinating encounter when they go toe-to-toe with third-placed Plymstock at Filham Park, 12 points separating the pair and it all comes down to this.

The team to join Abbots on the way down remains to be decided and Ipplepen will be playing for their B Division survival when they pay a visit to Braunton this Saturday.

A last-day relegation decider is on the cards between the two main candidates to go down.

Mathematically, Bovey Tracey 2nd XI could still be drawn into the final-round drama, but should be capable of gaining the five points they need from their date with champs Budleigh Salterton.

Bovey skipper Dan Green will have been encouraged be seeing that Braunton took nine points off Budleigh in a three-run defeat last time out.

It is a different story at Kelsey where both Braunton (195pts) and Ipplepen (189) know a defeat will send them down.

Last time out, Ipplepen lost by for wickets to Bideford. They were dismissed for 169 – Steve Bond grabbing four wickets to hasten their demise – which Bideford knocked off with more than nine overs to go. Tom Brend made 54.

Openers Aiden Phillips (52) and Mawgan Penrice (26) were largely responsible for taking Pens to 105 for two.

Once Bond (4-26) and Luka Metu (3-38) got to work no one made more than a dozen for Ipplepen. Marcus Bulled (2-2) assisted with the mopping up at the end.

Bideford lost James Ford and Ollie Hannam cheaply, but more than recovered during a partnership of 68 between Brend and James Hayter (25).

There was a brief hiatus as Hayter then Brend went in quick succession to Warrick Green (2-39), but Metu (23) then Josh King (27no) put Bideford firmly on course.

Braunton boast home advantage for this final-day decider but ‘Pens have a win in the reverse fixture in their corner.
