BOVEY Tracey shot clear of the A Division relegation parish with a five-wicket win over fellow drop worriers Bridestowe & Belstone.

Shaquan Glasgow top scored for Bridestowe with 68 in their 50-over total of 209 for nine, which Bovey knocked off with an over to go.

The result hoisted Bovey out of the bottom two and dropped B&B down to third from bottom. Just six points separate them from the drop spots.

Glasgow, in five balls into the game after opener James Ewen came and went to Rob Pryke (2-40), put on 47 with Kain Burns (35) and 42 with Craig Penberthy (22) to get B&B up to 100 for three.

“Rob Pryke was typically difficult to get away early on,” said skipper Seb Ansley. “Him and Gethin Williams (0-44) set the tone.

“There was some mild panic from myself after I dropped Shaq an absolute sitter off my own bowling which could've led to their score potentially being 80 runs lower. but Chris Yabsley saved my bacon.”

There was a brief slow down prompted by Yabsley’s four-wicket spell before Brandon Horn (23) and Tom Pengelly (22) got the board moving again.

Three wickets for Devon paceman Penberthy (3-39) helped reduce Bovey to 61 for four at one stage. Opener Jake Pascoe (35) was among the departed.

South African left-hander Hem Chetri was overdue a score and duly supplied one with 89 not out in a match-winning contest. His stand of 149 with Albie Bradley for the fifth wicket left a target of four to win. Game over.

“Hem and Albie won the game for us with their partnership after Jake set the foundations,” said Ansley. “It was a shame Albie couldn't reach his 50 but happy with his maturity in batting time and taking us to the brink.

‘Good to finally get a convincing win under our belts.”
