CHUDLEIGH levered themselves out of the C Division West bottom two by handing out a 142-run hiding to South Devon.

Chudleigh’s 45-over total of 258 for seven always looked a tall order for South Devon to chase. They have only passed 200 once all season – and never when batting second.

And so it turned out as Chudleigh bowled out South Devon for 116 to complete a 20-point maximum that took them past Paignton 2nd XI and out of the bottom two.

Chudleigh recovered from a collapse from 57 for none to 76 for four – Jon Martin (3-18) keeping busy – thanks to a stand of 61 between Nick Halse (48) and Kam Singh (33).

A 68-run partnership between Mike Brown (41) and Halse topped up the total. Yogi Yogesh belted 36 not out from 13 balls – five fours, two sixes – at the end.

Yogesh (4-10 off 9) tore into the top order as South Devon stumbled from 32 for three to 51 for six. Andrew Robinson (2-27) got in on the act as well.

There was some resistance from Jack Allen (30), Martin (23) and tailender Otty Yip (32) before Will Heather (3-8) finished what Yogesh started.

Elsewhere, Steve Edmonds stroked an unbeaten 93 against one of his former clubs as Ashburton defeated Kingsbridge by four wickets.

Kingsbridge, who had gone four games without a defeat, made 209 for nine in 45 overs with skipper James Fletcher top scoring on 50. He is averaging an impressive 63.17 in league cricket this summer.

Openers Freddie Ford (38) and Alex Browne (27) got Kingsbridge away to a 73-run start. Fletcher, Richard Carr (24) and 36 extras kept the board ticking over.

Matt Coon (3-35) was Ashes main wicket-taker. Aditya More (2-21) booked the best of the nine-over stints.

Ashburton had one wobbly spell between 75 for one and 79 for four when Kingsbridge spinner Bhanu de Silva (4-36) caused some alarm.

Edmonds saw off the threat and with More (35) at the other end during a stand of 77.

Meanwhile, Teignmouth & Shaldon made light work of a six-wicket win over Brixham.

Mo Shaik’s patiently compiled 78 not out was Brixham’s only double-digit score in a total of 117 all out. Five batters did not muster a run between them!

Skaik faced 130 balls after going out to bat in the second over with his first task avoiding being the final part of an Ahmad Amin hat-trick.

Amin (2-16) and Ryan Bougourd (2-12) reduced Brixham to eight for four all on their own.

Carl Woolnough (2-26) and Josh Couch (2-33) worked through the middle order.

Shaik (3-30) interrupted Teignmouth & Shaldons run chase from time to time, but the result was never in any doubt.

Opener Ross Jameson (37) batted through to 104 for four as the anchorman. Todd Ballman (22), Couch (19) and Alastair Cliff (18) were the supporting characters.

Teignmouth & Shaldon (194pts) remain third in the table behind Ashburton (196) and Cornwood II (201) as the promotion race heats up.

Finally, Ipplepen 2nd XI beat Plymstock 2nd XI by six wickets to condemn the C West cellar dwellers to a twelfth defeat in a row.

Benedict Forsey, 84 not out from 86 deliveries, was the standout with bat in hand for the eventual victors who are now just three points outside of the top half of the table.
