CHUDLEIGH crept to a three-wicket win over C West strugglers South Devon with an over to spare.

Captain Jack Allen, leading the South Devon side while Jonny Martin is injured, top scored with 96 not out in a team total of 259 for eight.

Aaron Hammett (28) and Ryan Maunder (46) gave South Devon a solid start, which was built on by Allen and Dan Yates (46) during a stand of 150 for the fifth wicket.

Sam Haywood (4-43) dominated the Chudleigh bowling stats. Mark Halse had two for 35 against one of his former clubs.

Chudleigh’s top-order batting was consistent – only Callum Holder (4) missed out – as they chipped away at the deficit.

Rajkumar Neelam (62) and Nick Halse (22) made early inroads, Haywood (44) and Leela Reedy (33) maintained momentum, then Mark Halse (33) upped the pace in the final few overs to see Chudleigh over the line.

Allen (2-41), Otty Yip (2-46) and Josh Vicary (2-20) were able to keep a lid on Chudleigh, but others were less successful.

Chudeigh are now comfortable in mid-table. Winless South Devon are one off the bottom with a 36-point gap between them and safety.

Meanwhile in the B Division, Ashburton literally turned the tables on Bideford with a two-wicket win over them in the bottom-versus-top encounter on Varwell Field.

Bideford went into the match sitting at the top of the table and looking to kick-on with a win over lowly Ashburton.

Ashburton have been bottom of the table since week three and were starting to look doomed to the drop.

Two wins on the spin have revived Ashes’ fortunes by cutting the gap between them and safety to 14 points.

Bideford are still top – joint top now with Stoke Gabriel on 151 points – with Seaton just two points behind in third.

Ashburton bowled-out Bideford for 210 with 13 balls to go. There were three wickets each for seamer Chris McKee – two caught behind – and three more for spinner Chris Yeo.

James Hayter made a patient 58 off 94 balls for Bideford. He was involved in stands that added 156.

Steve Edmonds opened up for Ashburton with 71 that kept the chase on course all the way to 157 for four. A stand of 74 with Jack Warren (33) proved crucial to the outcome.

The last leg of the relay was run by Yeo (16), Harry Bannister (16no) and Nat Saturley (13no).

Ford (2-28), Fawaaz Gallie (2-29) and Josh King (1-37) ensured Ashburton had to work for their runs.

Lloyd White, the Ashburton captain, said: “To field and bowl as well as we did in that heat, having lost the toss, was absolutely brilliant.

“It was a day where we had to hold our nerve and I'm really proud of the fight we showed.

“I've said it before but anyone can beat anyone in this league and it's great to get back to winning ways.”

Lastly, Ipplepen claimed Aaron Printers Twenty 20 Narracott Cup gloru after they defeated Paignton 2nd XI by four wickets in the final at Bovey Tracey.

George Tapley took four wickets for the Pens that helped bowl-out Paignton for 120.

Toby Holroyd set the chase up with 31, which left Warrick Green (26no) to wrap things up.
