SOUTH Devon were indebted to Richard Beaumont for getting them out of trouble in the derby clash with Teignmouth & Shaldon.

Jack Allen (23) was the only one of South Devon’s first seven batters to get past 10 in an unimpressive total of 70 -6.

Ryan Bougourd (3-21) and Ross Abraham (2-23) were the T&S bowlers who posed the problems.

Beaumont, going in at eight, made exactly 50 not out and with support from Kalen Warne (27), put on 58 towards a final product of 161-8.

Three wickets each for Allen (3-31) and Mali Marshall (3-43) helped bowl South Devon to a 21-run win. Jonny Martin and Warne took two each.

Teignmouth & Shaldon opener Tyler Blackburn made 54 – mostly in boundaries – while the rest of the top order laboured to 42 for four against Marshall, Martin and Allen.

Seamus McKenna took over where Blackburn left off and was the man South Devon had to shift.

Martin snared McKenna caught behind for 35, precipitating a T&S decline from 122 for five to 140 all out.

Meanwhile, Ipplepen dropped back into the B Division bottom two following a 79-run defeat away to joint leaders Plymstock.

Plymstock’s total of 224 all out owed plenty to a well-paced 71 from Tyrese Karelse with Pens finding wickets hard to come by at times. Henry Alsop showed his Bunbury Festival credentials with four for 12. Jono Colgate bagged two for 35 and Noah Rider (3-56) had his figures skewed by a handful of expensive overs.

With bat in hand, Pen’s top order did not last long and were in a perilous situation at 17-3.

Colgate (21), Ryder (15) and skipper Matt Beasant (42) did what they could, but at 103 for seven with Sam Wakeham (23) just out, the writing was on the wall.

Skipper Beasant remains confident Pens can play their way out of trouble in the final five games of the season.

“We know what we have to do to get out of this position, but if there's a group of players that can stick together and do that, it's this group,” said Beasant.

Lastly, Bovey Tracey gave themselves some wriggle room in the B Division survival scrap with a 97-run win over bottom side Abbotskerswell.

Bovey now boast a 20-point lead over second-bottom Ipplepen with Braunton between them and the danger zone.

Dan Green, the Bovey captain, said beating Abbots was no more than a step in the right direction.

“It was a win we needed but there is still a lot of work to do if we want to stay in this division,” said Green.

Abbots’ attack made life a struggle for Bovey’s top order with wickets for Anthony Miller (2-50) and Harrison Vickery (2-21) in a progressive total of 64 for six.

Gethin Williams (34) and Green (17) started to turn things round, then George Pitman bludgeoned 70 off 51 balls as Bovey got to 211 all out.

“We didn't get off to a good start with bat again, but Gethin Williams and George Pitman rescued the situation,” said Green.

Spinner Alife Harrison closed the innings by removing Pitman to finish with stats of three for 26.

Abbots were all out for 114, having lost wickets in clumps from start to finish. Sliding from 78 for four to 79 for eight summed up their afternoon. Niall McCarthy (16) had the best of a sorry set of scores.

There were three wickets each for Green (3-22) and Chris Yabsley (3-14) and two for Pitman.
