TEIGNMOUTH & Shaldon heaped more woes on C Division West relegation-worriers Chudleigh by administering a 132-run thrashing on them.
Todd Ballman went in at 16 for two for T&S and was still there at the end on 132 not out. He hit 17 fours and four sixes during 122 balls faced.
Seamus McKenna (59) was the other main contributor to a TY&S total of 256 for nine.
Andrew Robinson (3-50) was Chudleigh’s only multiple wicket taker. Mark Russell (1-29) offered little to hit.
Chudleigh were bowled out for 124, largely by Carl Woolnough (3-26), aided and abetted by Josh Couch and Tshepo Legodi with two wickets each.
Nick Halse (25) and Brad Sercombe (26) had the best of a sorry set of Chudleigh scores.
While Teignmouth & Shaldon are a comfortable third in the table, Chudleigh are one off the bottom.
Elsewhere, South Devon arrested their slide down the C West table with a resounding 89-run win over Paignton on Queen’s Park.
It was South Devon’s first win since week five and put 25 points between them and second-bottom Chudleigh.
Jonty Tupman (48) and Jack Allen (54) scored the bulk of the runs in a progressive total of 119 for four.
Fin Humphreys (31) was involved in stands that added another 83 towards the final tally of 226 all out.
Four Paignton bowlers claimed two wickets each. Max Pedley (2-28) and Will Milton (2-25) were the most effective.
Opener Chris Birks (45) was the only Paignton batter to make much progress against the South Devon attack of Allen (4-28) and Mali Marshall (3-24).
An early finish seemed on the cards when Paignton were 94 for eight, but tail-enders Milton (20), Shresth Bhardwaj (10no) and Jacob Lander (13) kept South Devon out there until the total reached 137 all out.
Meanwhile, Stoke Gabriel won for the first time in three B Division starts when they defeated Ipplepen by 54 runs.
In the grand scheme of things, it was an important win for Stoke as it put 13 points between them and the bottom two.
Worryingly for Ipplepen, they have dropped to third from bottom, where they are just four points clear of the water line.
Stoke Gabriel’s 45-over total of 254 for nine was largely the handiwork of opener Justin Pringle (88) and Abhishek Anand (82no). They put on 114 for the fourth wicket.
After Warrick Green (3-42) spun out Pringle, Adriaan Maxwell (37) added a further 51 with Anand.
Green and Jono Colgate (3-28) were Pens’ leading wicket takers.
Openers Aiden Phillips (29), batting against his father’s old club, and Marcus Gadie (23) gave Ipplepen a solid start.
Noah Rider (34) and Gareth Penrice took the total to 125 for four – and got out one after the other!
A target of 130 to win with four wickets intact and 16 overs to go was too many for Pens, who were bowled out for 198. Wickets were shared three each for Maxwell and Isaac Withington, and two for skipper Jack Tolley.
Matt Beasant, the Ipplepen captain, said there was one huge failing that cost his side.
“You won't win many matches while dropping seven catches,” said Beasant. “Had we taken even two or three more chances the game would've been there to win.
“There were lots of positives though, particularly Jono Colgate looking back near his best with the ball and another big scalp for Warrick Green.
“Credit to Anand and Pringle, they batted really well and their partnership won them the game.”
