AXMINSTER Town have now been well-beaten on three consecutive weekends by teams from South Devon.

The Tigers are currently bringing up the rear in the SW Peninsula League Premier East with zero points from seven games and our local trio have compounded their misery.

It began with a 4-1 defeat away Teignmouth AFC at the end of August and then to kickstart September, Newton Abbot Spurs put seven unanswered goals past them at The Rec.

On Saturday, September 13, it was the turn of Bovey Tracey AFC, who matched Spurs’ 7-0 hammering to extend their stay at the summit.

Owen Stockton, who recently joined the Moorlanders from Buckland Athletic, netted twice at Tiger Way and there was also a brace for Levi Landricombe. The other three goals came courtesy of Oli Aplin, taking his tally to 11 from nine in the league, second to only Crediton United’s Will Collins (15 in nine).

Spurs were also on their travels and they made it four wins on the spin, returning home from Somerset with all three points.

Middlezoy Rovers were their opponents and Connor Marshall’s men had to come from behind twice to prevail, Owen Green adding a single to a Toby Pullman hat-trick.

After losing to rivals Bovey in midweek, Teignmouth came up short again, this time at the hands of Cullompton Rangers.

Leon Aggett scored for the Teigns in between Cully goals from Lucas White and Lewis Hill but at Coombe Valley, the hosts had the chance to rescue a point, only to miss from the penalty spot.

Teignmouth sit in 13th after the weekend’s fixture slate with Spurs up in third and Bovey out in front.

The solitary midweek game sees Spurs host Honiton Town though and the former know, with a win, that they can move within a point of their neighbours.
