AFTER an “unbelievable start to the season”, Bovey Tracey AFC youngster Jack Brimming has attracted interest from former EFL club Aldershot Town.
The Shots currently ply their trade in the National League, finishing 16th last season in what was a very tight campaign. A mere eight points separated Hartlepool United in 11th and Maidenhead United in 22nd.
Brimming may just be a teenager but he has been a hugely influential member of a very strong squad at the Western Counties Roofing Ground.
Ben Gerring’s side are leading the way in the South West Peninsula League Premier East at the time of writing and the versatile forward has scored five goals in nine, a tally only bettered by Levi Landricombe (six) and Ollie Aplin (11).
Along with his goalscoring prowess, Jack has provided a handful of assists for teammates as well.
Speaking to the Mid-Devon Advertiser after the recent 4-0 home win over Okehampton Argyle, Gerring labelled Brimming as “really well-drilled for a young lad”, adding, “He’s got his head switched on and he’s focused on performing for Bovey, which he’s doing well beyond his years.”
Last week, Brimming watched an Aldershot 1st XI game along with the assistant manager and the club chairman, as well as training with the U23s.
He “wasn’t expecting to start for the U23s” but he did and here is what he had to say on the experience: “I thought I played well. It’s a really high standard, quick football, but I’ve definitely enjoyed it all so far.”
Gerring revealed that he was in contact with the relevant people at the club and would be receiving feedback on how Brimming fared.
His current manager said, “Hopefully we’ll get this further, there was talk of the Hampshire Cup. It’s great for Jack, great for his profile” and he even joked that “hopefully he doesn’t get too big for his boots.”
Brimming wants “to go as far as possible” in the game and for someone so young, this seems like a hugely exciting opportunity.
