BOVEY Tracey AFC enjoyed a very positive result in their penultimate game of this Walter C Parson SW Peninsula League campaign.
A 5-2 win at home against Stoke Gabriel & Torbay Police moved them above both Crediton United and Torridgeside AFC in the process, the pair losing to Okehampton Argyle and Torrington AFC respectively.
The Moorlanders fell behind in front of their own fans but goals from Tom Burt and Levi Landricombe saw them flip the script, only for Stoke to then equalise on the brink of half-time.
Second half strikes from Jack Brimming, Landricombe again and substitute George Bills secured an impressive win for Bovey at Mill Marsh Park.
They will now conclude their season, at home once again, with Crediton coming to town, knowing a win will secure them eighth, if not seventh.
Since taking over as the new manager from Matt Hayden, Ben Gerring has picked up six points from a possible six as the club look to build towards a more stable season next time around.
Elsewhere in the Peninsula League over the weekend, there was the 1-1 draw between the two other South Devon teams, Newton Abbot Spurs and Teignmouth AFC. Also, Middlezoy Rovers enjoyed a pair of wins, overcoming Bishops Lydeard by two goals to nil on Good Friday before then edging Elburton Villa in a seven-goal thriller on Easter Monday.
Meanwhile, champions Sidmouth Town extended their advantage at the top with a win over Honiton Town as Cullompton Rangers and Bridport FC also picked up three points apiece.
Bovey’s local rivals Newton Spurs host Torrington to close our their season and Teignmouth have three games left to play, travelling to Sidmouth tomorrow, then to Middlezoy on Friday evening and to Bishops Lydeard on the evening of April 29.
