A CRAZY second half which saw five goals scored in just 16 minutes eventually ended with Buckland Athletic running out 3-2 winners away at Street.
The Somerset side had a first half penalty go begging in this Western League clash as the two teams reached half-time with the goal nets untroubled.
But it only took until 10 minutes after the break for things to kick-off, with Callum Rose heading in the visitors’ opener.
Five minutes later, skipper Ben Carter managed to emphatically lob the keeper from the halfway line to double the Devonians’ advantage.
But as the old cliché goes, 2-0 is often the most dangerous scoreline – and so it proved when the Cobbs struck back seven minutes later.
First Bradlee Shepard reduced the arrears, before Leighton Thomas struck on 69 minutes to force Buckland back to square one.
Undeterred by this setback, Callum Chalmers found what turned out to be the winner two minutes later as Paul Froude’s side clung on for all three points.
And there was more good news for the Bucks gaffer on Sunday as he welcomed midfielder Nathan Cooper back to Homers Heath after a short spell at Southern League South strugglers Barnstaple Town.
‘It’s great to be back with the boys,’ the 24-year-old told the club’s website. ‘I think we’ve got a great squad this year and should do very well.
‘I’ve scored a few goals while away so hopefully I can bring them with me. We play football and create chances, hopefully I can help the club get to where they want be.
‘I loved every bit of last season and made a mistake leaving but I’m glad to be back.’
There no game for the Yellows this weekend, so Cooper will get the chance to make his second debut when Shepton Mallet come to Homers Heath next Tuesday (7.30pm).
