UNCERTAINTY caused by the coronavirus lockdown hasn’t put a stop to football clubs recruiting for next season.
Former professional Luke Guttridge, pictured, heads an impressive list of players committing to Peninsula Premier East outfit Newton Abbot Spurs.
The 38-year-old former Cambridge United, Luton Town and Dagenham & Redbridge midfielder has reportedly agreed to play ‘as and when he can’.
Guttridge, born in Barnstaple, began his lengthy career as a youth player at Torquay United, before departing for Cambridge in 2000.
He would go on to register more than 500 EFL appearances, managing to find the net 82 times in the process.
‘At 38 years of age, such a top profile signing will be an inspiration to the young lads throughout the club,’ read a statement from the side.
Other players through the door at The Rec include Brad Crocombe, Callum Leech and former-Kingsteignton Athletic goal-getter Ashley Dove.
Versatile youngster Tyler Joint, who has been out of action following a serious leg break, also makes a return to the squad.
A pair of familiar faces have also been brought back at Homers Heath as Buckland Athletic manager Paul Froude looks to strengthen his squad.
Ben Carter made 72 appearances for the club between 2011-13, and returns following a spell skippering Bideford in the Southern League Division One South.
The 28-year-old midfielder is joined by full-back Lewis Tasker, a former Western League winner with Street.
As well as past spells with the Bucks and Street, Tasker has also represented Tiverton Town and Bovey Tracey.
And Moorlanders boss Mark Blake has been making some additions of his own – starting with goalkeeper Jack McAndrew.
The shot-stopper, who coachers at Exeter City, has been brought in at Mill Marsh Park to deputise for university-bound Josh Nichol.
A club statement read: ‘Having two quality and young keepers connected to the club will be a massive improvement on our position last season.’
Former Axminster, Launceston and Marjons youngster Charley Skilton will also form part of Blake’s plans after a recommendation from the player’s university head of football development.
The 19-year-old is said to be able to cover various positions, with Blake adding: ‘This is another very exciting signing and I am chuffed to bits that we’ve got this signing done.’
